BLAST home page
With GUI BAST you would be able to run a graphical BLAST from your own
computer, even if you run MS-Windows!
BLAST is one of the most usefull bioinformatics application. Most BLAST
searches are made using NCBI BLAST,
but online BLAST is getting slower to use, since you are placed on a
line in order to get the results. There is also a risk involved in
sending your sequence as open text over the Internet (if you want to
keep it private). Maybe you don't have permanent Internet access.
Whatever the case, it could be handy to have a BLAST server on your own
computer.
Traditional BLAST (NCBI BLAST) could be
run in Linux and Windows computer, but only the Linux port have some
kind of graphical interface (using a web server, like NCBI BLAST on the
web). Windows users are left to command line BLAST. GUI BLAST will allow
a Windows user to install and use BLAST with a nice GUI (Graphical User
Interface).
This program is in a development
(pre-alpha) stage, I need help to finish. If you have some Python
programming skills, please take a look at Goal page,
where you'll find the proyect roadmap. The program works under Linux or
Windows, just change the database and program path accordingly (on the
source code).
If you want to
know when the program is ready to use, you could subscribe on the
annunces only mailing list. The web page to subscribe is:
